New Main Water Reservoir Facility

Project Description

This design-build project involved the design and construction of a wire- and strand-wound circular pre-stressed concrete potable Type I water tank, along with repairs and replacements of two 4-million-gallon tanks at the Main Water Reservoir Buildings 20221 and 20222 at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. The comprehensive scope of work included site preparation, coordination, furnishing, installation, testing, and disinfection of the tank. Key components of the tank construction included a foundation, concrete floor, core wall, pre-stressing, shotcrete, concrete dome roof, coatings, and appurtenances. The core wall was constructed as Type I: post-tensioned vertically with steel rods and circumferentially with machine-wrapped seven-wire galvanized strand, all protected with shotcrete. The foundation consisted of shallow spread footings and conventional slab-on-grade construction.
