Heavy Duty Advanced Transportation Technology Center (Diesel) Miramar College

Project Description

Under a Construction Management Multi-prime contract, both pre-construction and construction services were provided for new buildings at Miramar College for the Diesel Technology Program. The project involved rerouting existing site utilities and removing any utilities abandoned in the process. A new campus access road and pedestrian walk/fire drive were installed. The construction included three buildings for the Diesel Technology Department: a shop, a classroom, and a dynamometer/storage building. The shop building, constructed with structural steel and wrapped in CMU block, featured two overhead crane systems, radiant heaters, fans, and glass overhead sectional doors. The classroom building, also made of structural steel and wrapped in CMU block, was surrounded by a landscaped moat with rock mulch on three sides and housed a 12kv transformer within its building envelope. The dynamometer/storage building, a typical CMU structure with a steel-framed roof, included a large dynamometer with a separate control room, used for testing heavy-duty diesel equipment such as tractors, buses, and construction equipment.
